Muay Thai Kickboxing

Be prepared for an incredible work out. These “striking” skills will work every muscle in your body. If you’re the type of person who can’t get enough training to fill your week we offer personal training and pad work…

Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) is the martial art of unarmed combat. Boxing gloves were introduced only as recently as 50 years ago. The exact beginnings of Muay Thai are unknown and records date back to the 1500’s. Today it is the national sport of Thailand. We believe in the three attributes of Master Toddy’s training :

1) Excellence in the art of Muay Thai
2) Excellence in teaching
3) Safety

The art and skill of Muay Thai are not to be had intellectually. Today’s boxing requires training. Come to the gym. Train with Lorenzo. Learn new skills developing strength, speed, power and flexibility while attaining the cardio/respiratory conditioning that only the striking arts can develop.

Commando Krav Maga

ckm

Bully-proof yourself. The training builds better people. Conditioning, skills, and common sense drills are the three legs of this program.

Commando Krav Maga is self defense pure and simple. Do you see yourself in top physical shape? Do you feel ready to respond to any dangerous situation on the street or in your home?

Krav Maga was originally developed to answer the terrorist threat to the Israelis in 1919 by Imi Lichtenfeld. At the gym we instruct the toughest elements taught to the Israeli military with the sensibility that we are citizens on the street and the skills must be simple and effective.

Commando Krav Maga is built on three principles.
1) Ethical -Violence is always a last resort.
2) Pragmatic -Negotiate for peace, prepare to defend.
3) Dynamic -Learn in an forward thinking attitude. CKM evolves to meet the interests and demands of the times. It keeps getting better.

There is no better time to learn skills, improve athletic conditioning and prepare for each and every day. EVERY DAY!

CrossFit Strength Training

“Broad, general and inclusive”, that’s the word from the top at CrossFit. Varied trainings, scalable by loads and intensity, and developed by and for athletes make this the correct path for anyone willing to drop out of the non-directional work out routine so familiar to the garden level gyms we all perceive as the citadels of health.

In the CrossFit vernacular your body was “designed to do an incredible amount of work.” We simply have to train to be able to do that work with ease and safety. This is the optimum place to begin training at Gym Riki. It’s non-combative, non-competitive and the best place to grow the 10 key skills of CrossFit:

  • Cardio respiratory endurance
  • Stamina
  • Strength
  • Flexibility
  • Power
  • Speed
  • Coordination
  • Accuracy
  • Agility
  • Balance

The CrossFit program is built on “constantly varied, high intensity functional movements”. Functional movements are “universal motor recruitment patterns”. More simply can we move our bodies and objects efficiently? Can we move what we call large loads over long distances very quickly? CrossFit training is preparation for the “unknown contingencies we may face in life”. After much practice and experience it is clear that the preparation for “random physical challenges -i.e. unknown and unknowable events is at odds with fixed, predictable and routine exercise regimens”.
